Perhaps the most important thing one can do for the proper health of their lawn is core aeration! Aside from oxygenating the root zone, aeration allows for deeper water and nutrient infiltration, loosens soil and acts to essentially "stir" the soil from bottom-up. For this reason it is imperative one leaves the plugs on the turf to cycle back into the lawn. These plugs contain the organic matter and biota necessary for the proper nutrient cycling capabilities of your landscape. While this may not be the most aesthetically pleasing to some, it is crucial the plugs remain on the lawn. Depending on weather conditions and amount of available moisture, the plugs remain for a week to three weeks at the outer limit. They may be bagged after a week at next service, but must remain a few days at the minimum. Any plugs left on driveways or sidewalks are removed. Irrigation heads can be flagged for an additional man hour cost.
